Blog 3. December 17, 2013 (Catching Fire)

If I had to pick a symbol to describe the main character in my book Katniss, it would be a shield. I think a shield would fit Katniss perfectly because she comes together with many people in the games and helps them throughout the book. She does many things throughout the book to show she fights for others, such as when she tries to save Gale from the whipping. At this moment it is showing that she doesn’t think how she could get hurt or killed she thinks how could she save Gale.  I think a lot of people would only think about themselves if they were put in many of the situations she encounters, which is why I would give her the symbol of a shield.

Blog 2. December 11, 2013 (Catching Fire)

I believe one of the aspects of Catching fire so far is how I can relate to the characters. I can mostly relate to Katniss because she is a teenager and around my age. I think relating to the characters is very good while reading, because you can put yourself in their situation and think of what you would do. Such as if I was in the hunger Games I would probably die pretty fast because I don’t know how I would kill people.

The book Catching Fire is very slow at the beginning while they are on their victory tour. This is because there is no action, I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book, because the first book was great and action packed, and I loved it. I hope I love Catching Fire too

LOGAN GOLDBERG PRACTICE BLOG

PRACTICE BLOG
Logan Goldberg

PROMPT #1=

For my summer reading I read Caring is Creepy by David Zimmerman. The main theme in Caring is Creepy is manipulation. One of the main examples of manipulation is when Lynn lies to Logan to keep him in the house because she likes having a friend around. Another example of manipulation was when Hayes got Lynn’s mom to help him with his drug business causing a lot of problems, like murder. This is shown in this quote…“Logan, honey, if you’ve got to go to the bathroom, you should really wait until I am here…What if my moms boyfriend came in? Then you and me would be in a world of shit. Let me tell you”(Zimmerman 200-201)…Over the course of the story manipulation emerges from Lynn starting as keeping Logan in her closet for safety, to her keeping him there because she likes the company. Multiple times in the story Lynn tells lies to keep Logan in the house, because if she had told the truth he would have left the closet. Lynn had to make him scared to leave so she told him things like his mom wasn’t going to work, so he wouldn’t leave the closet while she was at school. This shows manipulation because she could have told the truth but she manipulated Logan to keep him in the closet.
